GRE or Graduate Record Examination is a test that measures verbal reasoning, critical thinking, and analytical writing skills. GRE is a test that requires to be taken by students who are aspiring to study in the United States of America (USA). This GRE test helps the graduate schools in US evaluate the potential of the aspiring students. Most of universities in the US require the students to successfully complete the GRE test to qualify for admissions. Types of GRE There are two types of GREs- GRE General Test GRE Subject Test GRE General Test This is the test that measures verbal, mathematical and analytical skills of a student. GRE General Test lays stress on reasoning and comprehension of a student.

GRE General Test is an online test and takes place all the year round at various computer based centers. It is also offered at paper-based test centers in areas of the world where computer-based testing is not available.

GRE Subject Test GRE Subject Test is taken by students who are aiming for higher level of studies in the US. By higher level, we mean students aiming to pursue PHDs in US or attain Masters degree in the US. GRE Subject Test caters to eight different fields of studies- Biochemistry, Cell and Molecular Biology; Biology; Chemistry; Computer Science; Literature in English; Mathematics; Physics and Psychology. The scores of GRE Subject Test helps compare the qualifications of aspiring applicants and in turn helps in judging the grades and recommendations of the applicants. There are some Subject Tests which give out subs-cores that can point out the strengths and weaknesses of individual students' and also act as a pointer for placement purposes. GRE Subject Test is a written test and is held all across the world three times a year- November, December, April in these cities of India- Allahabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Chennai, New Delhi, Pilani, Ranchi and Trivandrum. GRE Preparations GRE is a very unique kind of test with each test being different from the previous one. And a person has to answer all the questions…because answering one question leads to the other question, so it is mandatory for him to answer all the questions and he cannot skip any of them. So, preparations need to be good in order to score brilliantly in GRE. In this regard, there are many books and CDs which will help one in preparing for GRE.
